Adware protection and removal
Pop up ads . . . the bain of all computer users! If you have been using a computer for any length of time, you are going to run into these annoying adware popups. Adware is one of the largest sources of headaches for computer users today. This type of software doesn't spy on you or anything quite like that - instead, it covers your screen in ads, even when you aren't connected to the Internet.
Adware is similar to spyware and is installed on your PC without your consent or knowledge, probably by installing free software or shareware. Adware displays advertisments to you while you are using the program it was installed with and maybe at other times. In any event this is software you do not want running on your PC and using up processor power. One of the reasons your computer is running slower could be adware applications.
The latest scam is to hide these 'adware' programs as adware removal tools. People believe popups they see on their computer. "It must be part of the operating system and it's telling me to click here." So you click as told and another adware application is loaded on your computer. If you didn't know you had it, you probably didn't, so don't click.
Luckily, there are ways to combat this adware annoyance. First, it is a good idea to install some sort of anti-adware software. You can use free versions of "ADAware" or Spybot Search & Destroy" for example. A Google search on Adware removal will bring up a large selection. As a rule, the free programs do not run in real-time. So you will have to run them at regular intervals. Finally, if you don't absolutely need something, don't download it. Games and pictures are a favorite source for installing adware. Free Adz and Warez sites may be tempting, but be careful. You may be downloading more than you bargained for.
