Successful SEO Copywriting is so easy but there are so many people out there trying to make it complicated it's easy to get confused.
Yes, of course there is a lot to know about how the search engines decide which site shows up in their top search results. However, for people who offer a good product or service, it's really easy to get top rankings.
First of all, stop trying to trick the search engines with SEO copywriting. They have hundreds of full time, highly trained personnel who spend all their time trying to weed out the poor quality sites.
If I need to figure out what's going on in their mind all the time, I'm afraid that's just too much for me. I don't have the time or willingness to deal with that. Fortunately, you don't need to get too deeply in to the "minds" of the search engines to be successful at SEO copywriting.
Since we know that search engines are looking to provide good quality content to their clients, why not just write good content so you can be successful at SEO copywriting?
Everything in a search engine's life is related to key words. Just be sure to include the key word in your title and once or twice in each paragraph you write. The best SEO copywriting is when you can include your phrase in an easy to read way for humans as well as the search engine robots.
If at all possible, try to include the key word or phrase in the first sentence of the first paragraph and the last sentence of the last paragraph.

The only other thing that would help is to start off with low competition key words. If there are a lot of websites for a particlular keyword, shy away from it in the beginning. Build up your "equity" with the search engines by focusing on the less popular key words until you have at least 30 pages in your site.
If your site has many pages dedicated to a particular theme they will give it more importance by giving you a prominent place in their listings.
